Course Curriculum - 5-Day Barista Course
This is where you will learn the basis of your barista knowledge. You will learn how to set up, clean and maintain a working station up to professional standards. You will also discover the 6M, the 6M are a set of Italian barista techniques which all begin with the letter ‘m’. The 6M teach you about coffee blends, origins, grinding, marketing and the espresso machine. The 6M are as follows:
1. Miscela – Blend
2. Macinatura – Grinding
3. Macchina – Machine
4. Mano del Barista – Barista’s Hand
5. Manutenzione e Pulizia – Maintenance and Cleaning
6. Marketing – Marketing
The 5L covers another fundamental element of coffee and barista knowledge – milk. You will learn about milk through the 5L. The 5L are a set of Italian barista techniques that all begin with the letter ‘l’. They include different types of milk and the equipment needed to make the perfect froth and latte art. The 5L are as follows:
1. Latte – Milk
2. Lattiera – Milk Jug
3. Lancia Vapore – Steam Wand
4. Lavorazione – Processing
5. Latte Art – Milk Art
Latte art is the ability to transform the milk that sits on top of the coffee in to a work of art. You will cover both theoretical and practical elements of latte art. You will learn a range of techniques on how to froth milk and obtain a perfect texture for drawing on the surface of a cappuccino. Moreover, you will learn different drawing and free pouring techniques. One method involves the use of a latte pen to draw an apple, heart, leaf and tulip on your cappuccino. Finally, you will learn to decorate your cappuccino with chocolate topping.
Coffee Brewing Methods and Coffee Flair Seminar
There are so many ways to brew coffee and each method delivers a different result. Coffee brewing is such an in-depth topic that during your 5-Day Course you will only cover some of the methods in your seminars in the school. You will focus on the V60, AeroPress, Syphon and French Press brewing methods. During the second part of the seminar, you will learn about coffee flair theory and will pick up a few practical coffee flairs moves.
Now is the time for you to put everything you have learned into practice with the EBS Barista exam. The exam involves both theoretical and practical elements of barista so make sure you prepare yourself thoroughly.
